ECWID Shopping Cart Joomla Extensions

Recently I was introduced to a new hosted shopping cart solution called ECWID. I played with it for about 10 minutes and really liked the idea behind it. I was also surprised how fast it loaded the hosted cart. I was able to whip out several extensions for Joomla that help integrate the cart…

Here’s a video of it in action

Keep in mind: The extensions come without support and might have a bug or two.  If someone would like to take the time and get it in a repository like Joomla Forge or Google Code let me know and I’ll post a link here.

Download the extensions

UPDATE

The above extensions are now in an SVN repository on Google Code.  Check it out and contribute here!

aww thanks for sharing this with us!

Its really fast and slick. I like it!

  2. Awesome job on this. I didn’t know the cart even existed. This is a GREAT option for smaller ecom sites vs installing Virtuemart.

  3. Rob says:

    Are there translations availlable?
Would like to use it but need a Dutch shop.

  4. Rick says:

Yeh ECWID does have translations. See the list here:

  5. David says:

Nice to have a Joomla component. How do I stop it referring to my shop as Rick Blalock’s store in the noscript?
Do I need to modify hte zip file before uploading it. I have tried changing the store code in both places but that didn’t seem to make any difference.

  6. Rick, will you be adding this great combo to the JED?

  7. Rick says:

@David – Whoops. Forgot to remove that. It’s in the html at /components/com_ecwid/views/ecwid/tmpl/default.php. You can remove it there.

@Eric – I plan on it. Just haven’t had time yet.

  8. @Rick – Great. ECWID already is posting links back to your site when the Joomla! topic comes up.

  9. BTW, I posted an Idea to Discuss on their site to integrate the Authorize.net AIM method along with SIM. The AIM method will allow for credit card capture on the site instead of taking them offsite like Paypal and AN SIM. The checkout conversion rate when taken to PP and others drops significantly.

First off thanks for the component. Looks very nice. I installed it to my joomla 1.5 installation and setup my store id in the component paarameters, however my store does not show up. It just shows the demo store.

  12. Rick says:

Ah yeh. The reason why is probably because you didn’t set it in the menu item. When you create a menu item you have to set it there. I’ve had a couple people mention this. I put it in both places for flexibility but I suppose almost everyone is going to use just one store ID per site so it’s pointless to have it in both places.

  13. Mark Wedge says:

Thanks for the quick reply. Working great now!

  14. Mark says:

    Hi,

Fingers crossed this will work, the first time I ran it loading up the demo store, it asked me about google gears, I said allow, would it do this to prospective first time customers before showing the shop?

  15. Rick says:

it shouldn’t I don’t have google gears installed.

  16. Mark says:

been using joomla since Jul 2009, used all kinds of plugins, components for all kinds of tasks…this is just sublime, i am gobsmacked

  17. Mark says:

are virtuemarts days numbered? I think they might be

  18. Bill says:

what degree of integration were you able to achieve:
    - working within the template
    - locate ECWID categories module in main front page
    - have each ECWID category be a menu item
    - sign-in be a module not just a hyperlink

oh… and remove the load in progress status bar :-)

  19. Sumacasu says:

@Rick – This Shopping Cart is amazing, One question how do I add my own products, I just installed it and It has like sample products? I would like to delete those and add my own.

    Thanks

  20. sumacasu says:

Oh ok, wow thanks for your prompt response, also I noticed that —>>> Parameters (Basic) on my ECWID menu does not display.

    Thanks

    It’s already possible: http://kb.ecwid.com/How-to-change-loading-image-and-transition-screen

  23. sumacasu says:

@Rick, I need a little help, I need to activate the credit card option, so people can buy using their credit cards? Actually I have the paypal option. How do I activate the payments using credit cards. Maybe there is something that I’m missing.

    Thanks in advance.

  24. Joost says:

Thanks, does the component work on Joomla 1.6 as well?

  25. JB says:

    Hi Rick,

This may seem like a stupid question but I don’t understand the upfront benefit of using these extensions versus just copying and pasting the code from the Ecwid site?

Can you please briefly tell me the main reason someone would choose to install these extensions versus using the code provided with in my Ecwid dashboard. The functionality appears the same to me.

    Thanks Rick.

  26. in my opinion is better to use magento or prestashop shopping carts system
