Hi Rick. Thanks for all you do for the growing Joomla community. A pat on the back isn’t thanks enough, but give yourself one anyhow. We need more around like you. My question: Would you recommend this template for newbies like myself?

Sounds like the references to the CSS files and the like are pointing to the template folder.

Still working on getting that stuff assimilated for the tuts.

Great tutorial Rick! You made it look so easy… I have a static template developed for a client who then wanted a CMS, so I thought ‘great!’… followed your instructions (I hope, to the letter) but it all turned to crap when I went to upload the .zip file to the Joomla! environment. At this stage the second screen (when you hit the ‘upload’ button) went blank! I was wondering if you have any ideas as to what I may have missed?
More detail would be great! Have you been able to expand tutorial at all yet?

Hey, I’d like more details about this offer. I really like the look of your usability template, but my logo looks terrible when I add it to the site. I’m also having trouble finding an image that fist just right on the front page in place of the XiD picture.

I’m amazed that despite its apparent popularity, there’s such limited information on building Joomla templates. The same documents are being referred to thru’out the Net., all pointing to the docs found on Joomla’s website. There’s so much repetition, and none of them have been helpful.

Your video on converting a template design happens to be the only one that has been of any use, seriously. Otherwise everyone seems to suggest you find a template that has the same/similar design and then you customize it. Utter bull…

Obviously, I’m not a fan of Joomla, yet… I doubt I’m going to be a convert anytime soon.

Regarding site background and other css editing, I go to the template folder and edit the css or index.php directly using notepad++.

Thank you x1000 for this tutorial.

I was struggling with Joomla until I saw this. Fantastic.

Just one problem, though. I followed your instructions to the ‘T’, but when I went into Template > Edit, I couldn’t see any options. I wanted to set the main menu (similar to your horizontal menu) but couldn’t, because there wasn’t any place to set the ID for the navigation. The message being “Menus: Cannot assign default template.”

So I haven’t been able to move further. But getting this far itself made my day. I await the series. :-)
