Web 2.0 2007/03/12 11:53
First, I would like to say that I really like your work! What (sort of) direction are you heading with this club?

The reason I ask is a few fold... and I hope that I'm not slamming any of the other clubs in this next little diatribe:

This is the only club I belong to and the only other club that I've thought about joining is Yootheme. It seems that the "standard" joomla templates a la "Solarflare-ish" designs are a dime a dozen. I look at Joomlart and Rocket and I see the same CMS style templates. (Nothing wrong with that… but…)

Yes, they are loaded with features and little bonuses... But there is a compromise. You still end up hacking them all up to get the same functionality that you can achieve by hacking a free template IMO. Time isn't free, and that is a big reason why many (I assume) join template clubs, because... after all, CONTENT is KING.

I personally like the Web 2.0 style pages, for example: Joomla OS, Yootheme.com, Mootols.net, legacydesigns.com/, housingmaps.com/, etc. A good design IMO is; Clean, slick, beautifully simple, and loaded with functionality. A Joomla backend coupled to a Web 2.0 styled front-end is a recipe for success in my mind.

I guess what I'm trying to say with all of this rambling is; I like the direction your going with joomla OS and Mootools-esque templates. I hope we can expect more web 2.0 styled templates.

thoughts?

Thanks for the complement! I do agree with you about other templates from other places: They can do alot, but at a severe cost speed and resources (this site's template is a perfect example of a slow template). Our purpose for the templates on this site is to keep things VERY simple and let the user customize. Also, you'll notice alot of the templates are conversion templates from other sites. Again, we like to do this because they are popular templates that are simple and proven to load fast.

Any suggestions? We'll take some!

Thanks.

Its not super hard to trim the fat off of a template, but why should you need to make a bunch of modifications to a "professional" template?

Suggestions: Keep up the good work! More web 2.0 type templates a la javascript/clean code.

Do you have a preview of the next template?
